Audio Files

For many years, Paul Lintern has delighted in using his humor and distinctive writing style to reimagine classic hymns and carols, giving them a fresh touch for today’s world.

After years of sharing his Easter Carols only in print, he’s now offering occasional audio recordings so you can hear how each song sounds. As he modestly says, he “took the time to record a version of this song—but not quite enough time to add much production value.”

Hog Carols

Ol’ G’Hog has his own spot on the calendar, a festival in Pennsylvania, and a classic movie. You know what is missing? A theme song. A Groundhog carol, a Hogcalling!

So, let me offer these newly minted gems:

Phillip the Groundhog
(tune: Rudolph)

Phillip the Groundhog, had a very special task,
Once a year he’d show, so the world could know,
and would do just what they asked.

So, on the Second, of the February month,
People look at Phil, ‘cause he fits the bill,
Then they all go home to lunch.

We must admit, we have a fit,
If shadows we don’t see,
But Fuzzy Phil, entertains us still,
A prognosticator he.

Then he returns to his cozy little hole,
He has done his best, now he’s earned a rest.
Such a helpful little soul.

Blinkety, blink, blink, blinkety, blink, blink,
See the shadow now,
Blinkety, blink, blink, blinkety, blink, blink,
Spring will come somehow.

Sunny Morn
(Tune: Silent Night)

Sunny morn, shadowy morn,
Phil has seen, alas, forlorn,
There will not be an early spring,
Six more weeks of what winter brings,
Phil the Groundhog has seen,
Phil the Groundhog has seen.

Out From The Hole
(Tune: Up on the Housetop)

Out from the hole comes the ‘hog,
Sleeping in his hollow log,
Blinking his eyes, what will he see?
Shadow or not, what will it be?
Oh-Oh-Oh, what will he see?
Oh-Oh-Oh, what will it be?
Sunny or cloudy, groundhog speaks;
Will it be winter six more weeks?

The Rock has now been rolled away

TUNE: Rock and Roll is Here to Stay
Sung by Gabriel and the Angels, AD 33
“Altared” lyrics by Paul Lintern

(Rock, rock, rock) Oh, Lordy,
(Rock, rock, rock) Oh, Lordy,
(Rock, rock, rock) Oh, Lordy,
(Rock, rock, rock) My Lord!

The rock has now been rolled away, we will never die,
It was meant to be that way, and now we know why,
Listen what God’s people say,
The rock has now been rolled away!
(Listen what God’s people say,
The rock has now been rolled away!)

The rock has rolled, we’ll always be with Jesus in the end,
Down through all of history, Jesus is our friend,
This rock that rolled will always be
The greatest thing in history.
(This rock that rolled will always be
The greatest thing in history)

Everybody’s rock (4x),
Everybody’s rock has rolled. (4x)

The rock has rolled, we’ll always be with Jesus in the end,
Down through all of history Jesus is our friend
This rock that rolled will always be
The greatest thing in history.

If you don’t know the rock that roiled,
Think what you've been missin’,
The greatest story ever told, come on down and listen,
Let's all start, you’re not too old,
Easter is the rock that rolled,

Oh, Lordy (Rock, rock, rock),
Oh, Lordy (Rock, rock, rock).
Oh, Lordy (Rock, rock, rock)….
(FADE TO ETERNITY)
